10 Local Unions And Labor Councils Endorse Fernandes For Plymouth And Barnstable Senate Seat

Today, ten union locals and labor councils employing workers across the Plymouth and Barnstable district endorsed Representative Dylan Fernandes in his bid for State Senate. The endorsing unions include North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters and Carpenters Locals 330 and 346; the National Association of Government Employees (SEIU); Ironworkers Locals 37 and 7; the Northeast Regional Council of Sheet Metal Workers Local 17; Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 3; United Food and Commercial Workers Local 328; and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4.

"From the cost of housing to the cost of childcare, the Plymouth and Barnstable District is increasingly unaffordable for workers and their families. Our union is endorsing Dylan Fernandes for State Senate because he has a long and proven track record of getting things done for working families,” said Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 3 President Charles Raso. “He’ll tackle our affordability crisis head-on and deliver real results for the district.”

“Dylan has a strong track record of standing with unionized labor as a State Representative,” said Ironworkers Local 37 Business Manager Dave Langlais. “He’s been a dedicated public servant who has consistently had the backs of working families, and his focus on economic development has led to the creation of good paying jobs for our members in the Plymouth and Barnstable district.”

"I've always supported workers and their families, and I'm grateful for the backing of unions representing workers across the Plymouth and Barnstable District,” said Representative Fernandes. “Our region is in an affordability crisis, with workers and families bearing the brunt. I'm advocating for policies to lower living costs, generate quality union jobs, and strengthen our economy. It's about enabling working families to flourish and remain in the communities they call home.”

The list of endorsing unions is as follows, with more to come in the near future:

Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen (BAC) Local 3; North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (NASRCC); Carpenters Local 346; Carpenters Local 330; Northeast Regional Council of Sheet Metal Workers (SMART) Local 17; Ironworkers Local 7; Ironworkers Local 37; National Association of Government Employees - Service Employees International Union (SEIU NAGE); United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 328 and International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 4.

The endorsing unions join a growing list of Fernandes supporters that includes Governor Maura Healey; Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll; current Plymouth and Barnstable district State Senator Su Moran; Senator Julian Cyr (Cape & Islands); Representatives Kathy LaNatra (12th Plymouth), Sarah Peake (4th Barnstable), Kip Diggs (2nd Barnstable), and Chris Flanagan (1st Barnstable); and fourteen locally-elected officials from across the Plymouth and Barnstable district, including the majority of the Plymouth Select Board.

Fernandes, who has served as the State Representative for the Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket district since 2017, is running to succeed Moran, who announced she would not seek re-election last November.
